Flying over Arabia, you can see patterns that look like works of art by abstract painters. Most of them consist of a combination of relatively simple lines, circles or triangles. In between, however, there are occasionally signs that clearly deviate from the simple scheme and show more complex patterns. I am curious to see what archaeology will find out about them. Did these patterns come about by chance, because over the centuries people have created different shapes in the same place one after the other? Or were artists at work here who wanted to make a special mark with thought and creativity?
